“What do you mean… you people?”
Tropic Thunder: The Trailer.
Ben Stiller. Jack Black. Steve Coogan. Yes, the premise for The Three Amigos is back. It was back once before in A Bug’s Life. Now it’s back in a context that spoofs Vietnam war movies.
And… zounds!! That’s Robert Downey Jr., playing a method actor who goes so far as to change his skin color to play a black soldier.
Tropic Thunder is coming to you from the director of Zoolander. Yes, Ben Stiller’s interested in extreme makeovers again.

Here Is What Isn’t
Thom Jurek is not at all pleased with Daniel Lanois’ Here Is What Is. And I agree. I’ve given it three or four listens, and there isn’t a single track here that I would include on a Lanois “best-of.” I still love Acadie and For the Beauty of Wynona, and there are some wonderful songs on Shine, but Lanois doesn’t seem as inspired or motivated as he once did.

Someday… they’ll be cool!
(Bonus points if you catch this headline reference.)
One of my favorite young actresses — Zooey Deschanel — has teamed up with M. Ward to become She and Him, and I’m excited about hearing their first collaboration.

Moriarty discovers Adam’s Apples and Film Movement
When you listen to the next Kindlings Muse podcast on movies (which should be up anytime now), you’ll find me raving about Adam’s Apples, which just hit DVD shelves from Film Movement. It’s one of the best films of the last year, and I only just discovered it. I’m grateful that Film Movement served it up.
And so is Moriarty at Ain’t It Cool, who just posted his thoughts today.

Sun Kil Moon shines
You can hear April, the new album by Sun Kil Moon, in its entirety at the band’s MySpace page! The guys at ArtsandFaith.com are doing the dance of joy about this album, and Paste just labeled it a “masterpiece.” I’m listening to it right now. It’s dreamy.

Wow, couldn’t disagree more with you on the Daniel Lanois album, to each his own I suppose.
Ditto. I also like his early stuff, but really like the fuzzy sound he’s gotten into lately with Shine and Here Is. And there are a couple songs I’d put on my “Best of”, including Duo Glide (love the guitar).
“Look under your bed, it will set you free.” Love Zooey in Almost Famous!
