Paul Scofield was magnificent as the title character in one of my favourite novel-to-movie adaptations: Martin Chuzzlewit. Despite its length, I have seen that movie numerous times.

Hi Jeffrey,
Both of these films you mention I love and Paul Scofield had such a screen presence (to use that exhausted phrase), in them.
After seeing 'A man for all seasons' I was so affected by it-that I read Sir Thomas Moore's biography.
He was a rare performer.

His brilliant performance of the ghost has haunted me since I first saw it in a Seattle theatre way back when. I even captured it on my little handheld recorder. At least a couple times a year since then I have listened to it with great pleasure.
